The number "451" refers to the temperature in Fahrenheit at which book paper auto-ignites.

Farenheit 451 is a story written by science fiction author Ray Bradbury. It is a story of a dystopian future in which all forms of print media are censored, outlawed and burned.

FAREN-BYTE 451 is play on words refering to the virtual "book burning" caused by the evolution of digital technologies; books, newspapers, magazines, all form of physical print media endangered by pixilated "new media".

In Farenheit 451, books were burned by book burner firemen. Today physical print media are being burned figuratively by the internet, Amazon's Kindle, Google Books, Scribd.com, digital television and the like.

Ray Bradbury apparently stated that his novel is not about censorship; he states that Fahrenheit 451 is a story about how television destroys interest in reading literature, which leads to a perception of knowledge as being composed of "factoids", partial information devoid of context. As McCluhan said, "The Medium is the Message".

This will be a blog about old versus new print media; the medium itself (paper versus pixel) and thoughts about the culture and business models that support them (free vs. paid).

This blog is written by a lifelong lover of books as well as an early adapter to new technologies.
